10 Self Care tips to start your day

There are those who do mornings and those who snooze!


I couldn't fathom the thought of getting up before 10am.

Until i discovered that there is something about giving yourself time before you hop right into a long day of work.


Besides the important essentials for maintaining a balanced quality of life, there are a few things that can have you feelin' yo self just a little more this morning!


Here are my top 10 for self care tips.


Of course there is always more, but lets start with the basics.

1. Sleep

The most important priority you have for a great morning is to get pliantly of sleep the night before. The average American gets about 6 hours of sleep everyday. To function well and have enough energy for a long day at the office 7-9 hours is ideal for a fresh start as well as avoiding midday crash.


2. Meditation

Time yourself for about 5-10 for sitting still and meditation. Taking slow deep breaths in through your nose out through your mouth, finding a rhythm between breaths. Helping clear your mind before you dive into the day. Something about doing this first thing in the morning allows you to reboot, refresh and think clearly.


3. Yoga

Getting your body moving is a great way to wake up and give your blood circulation a gentle kick. Yoga poses also help detox the body and digestion, creating a gentle balance for the start of the day. Simple yoga poses like these can do the trick.


4. Water

A glass of water before you any food works well on an empty stomach. Squeeze some lemon in a tall glass of water. Be mindful of the temperature of the water, as that can be the main factor and ideal for maximizing the benefits. Drinking any water, or especially warm water, first thing in the morning can help flush the digestive system and rehydrate the body.


5. Intention Setting

Whether its listing the things you are grateful for or a 5 minute free writing session, getting some thoughts on paper is definitely a way to de-clutter your mind and open it up for clarity and free flowing ideas. Setting a daily intention for the day, minimizes your to do list so that you work on the important task for the day.


6. 20 Minute work-out

This one can take some discipline but definitely has some long-term benefits. An early morning workout offers numerous benefits, mind body and soul as well as to your daily schedule, that exercising at other times of the day just can’t provide. It just takes a little time and practice before morning exercise becomes your habit.


7. Music

Pump up some good ol’ tunes to get you in the mood for a full days work. Playing some songs you favor while getting ready for the day. Some great Jazz music or your favorite alternative playlist can set the mood right. Always keep in mind to play cool soft playful music, keeping your mood elevated and body moving. (save the EDM for Friday night!)


8. Pamper yourself

There may not be enough time in the morning for a full on facemask make over. However simple things like cucumber slices for puffy eyes or let some honey sit on your face while you prepare breakfast is a pleasant treat. Giving yourself a gentle start like this helps ease your way through any busy day.


9. Nutritious breakfast

Most important meal of the day, breakfast! This will determine your efficiency and how long your engine can run before lunchtime. Swap out the bacon for some fruit and whole grain toast. Oatmeal, blueberries and toast along with a green smoothie is a go-to for the maximum amount of fuel.


10. Take a new route to work

Getting your brain working by making a quick decision and taking a different route to work is also a fun way to get your creative skills going. If time permits of course, challenge yourself and take a different route every once in a while. Getting yourself out of auto pilot makes for an awesome way to give yourself that jump-start you need before work.

Set some time aside before bed and prepare yourself for your morning routine cultivated for your personal needs. Everyday can be a great day to implement at least one habit to get your morning going.
